Education-the Slovak System of Education
School attendance (školská dochádzka)in our country is compulsory(povinná)from the age 6 to 15.School in the S.R  - state, church, private. School state are free of charge(bezplatné). Private and sometimes  church  school have fee(školné). Student do not wear uniform.
The  school  year starts on 2 nd of September, ends 30th June of the following year. The school year is divided into to terms polrok (September-January, February -June). The average (priemerný)number of lessons at a secondary school is around thirty a week. Classes begin between 8-8,15 and finishes abot 2 p.m. -3p.m. Break for lunch last/trvajú/ about 45 minutes and breaks between lessonslast from 5 to 10 minutes.
Education in our country includes: pre-school  education, primary education, secondary education, university
Pre – school education:
creshes(jasle)for children up to 3 years, nursery / kindergartens/children from  3 to 6
Primary school: starts at 6 to 15
Secondary school: grammar school – with general education , prepare students for university
                                  special school – include secondary technical school, bussines academy,agricultural school,  nursing schools,   
                                                              music and art school
                                  vocational school – prepare students  for practical job
Universities – two degrees –Bachelor s Degree, Master s of Degree/Comenius University
School subjects: cumpolsory subject   - Maths, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Computer Science, CIvics(občianska), Foreign languages, Mother tongue/materinský jazyk, Slovak languages, Physical education(PE) telocvik, Religious education, Technical Design, technology, Typing....
optional or elective subjects(voliteľné)- Conversation in Languages, Home Economy,Financial Science
School Schedule and school subjects differ from school to school.
Secondary schools   usually last 4 years.Studying ends with school - leaving exam called maturita, then they receive the School- Leaving Certificate(maturitné vysvedčenie). Matirita is taken in four subjects, the Slovak language, foreign language, the theoretical part of vocational subjects, the practical part of vocational subjects. Then students can go to work or to university.
Qualities of students: positive – hard- working, gifted/talented, ambitious, well –behaved, polite, disciplined, careful, punctual
                                        negative- average, lazy, slow –woker, undisciplined, lie, careless
Qualities of teacher: positive –ideal, enthusiastic, patient, with sense of humour, experienced
                                     negative – nervous, unpatient, very strict punish students
School buildings – in oue country are schools very similiar. In the basement(the ground) there are cloakrooms, school canteen, the gym, library, on the other floors  - classrooms, teacher s offices, laboraties, the head  s offices, administrative Office, computer rooms, long hallway,staircases(schodište), cabinets, toilets, walls are decorated with pictures , notice boards,
What is a lesson in a Slovak school like? After the bell, when teacher enters the classroom, the pupils stand up and greet him.tHe teacher writes  absent students in the class register and then he stars the lesson with revision and then explain new problems – curriculum(učuvo),Sometimes student writes tests, subject mater (učivo)
The British System of Education
1/ pre-school education, nursery school, kindergartens , they are 3 years old – they learn basic things like in our country – eating habits, washing habits, playin with toys, sleeping habits
2/Primary school – infant schools(5-7)drawing, painting, musical acitivities reading, writing, have to keep some rools
                                  junior schools –(7-11)work more systematically
š/Secondary school – 1.comprehensive schools –(a wide range of secondary education) 2. Grammar schools – prepare students for university
At the age of 16 students may take the General Certificate of Secondary Education, i tis in 10 subject. At the age of 16 about two thirds of pupils leave schol and get jobs or get to a college for vocational training. They can stay at school for two years. At the age of 18, they take the examinations for The Genaral Certificate of Secondary Educatin at Advanced Level A.
